Mass illness at Feydhoo cadet camp sends 31 children to health centres

A number of students participating in a cadet camp in S. Feydhoo have been admitted to health facilities after experiencing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Addu Equatorial Hospital told Sun that a total of 31 children have been taken to health centres for treatment.

Twelve children are being treated at the Feydhoo Health Centre, another twelve at the Maradhoo Health Centre, and seven at Addu Equatorial Hospital.

According to a parent, the affected students are from Grades 7 and 8 of the school.

Hospital officials said the main symptoms observed among the children were diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

However, none of the children are in serious condition, and their condition is gradually improving with treatment, the hospital said.

The cause of the illness remains unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether food poisoning is involved.

Cadet camps and other uniform-activity programmes have been taking place in schools across the country since Saturday.
