Yazmeed Mohamed has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maldives Pension Administration Office (MPAO).
MPAO, on Thursday, said Yazmeed will commence his five-year term this Sunday.
Yazmeed most recently served as a presidential appointee to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), where he held the position of Vice President before resigning from the post last May.
He brings extensive experience in finance, governance, and the public sector, with professional expertise spanning auditing, anti-corruption, financial management, strategic management, and investment. He is also a certified chartered accountant (ACCA).
Yazmeed holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Open University of Malaysia and a first-class honors degree in Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
During former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s, he served as a member of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He has also been involved in politics, contesting the most recent parliamentary elections as a candidate for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), but failed to secure a seat.
Yazmeed assumes leadership of the Pension Office following a period of considerable internal disagreement over a recent board decision. Several board members and senior officials, including the former CEO and Chairman, resigned in opposition to a decision to sell MVR 2.4 billion in bonds to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and reinvest the proceeds in new government bonds, expressing concerns that the move could have adverse effects on the economy.
