The Cabinet has decided to upgrade the Home for People with Special Needs (HPSN) in K. Guraidhoo into a state-of-the-art facility.

According to the President’s Office, Sunday’s Cabinet meeting approved plans to develop the centre into a modern institution offering comprehensive services. The government will also seek the necessary support from relevant authorities to carry out the upgrade.

Established in 1976, the Guraidhoo HPSN provides care for people with disabilities, the elderly and others requiring state assistance. The centre conducts programmes to help residents reintegrate into the community by teaching social skills and strengthening daily-living abilities. It also serves as the main state-run facility offering long-term care and living arrangements for vulnerable groups.

Officials say the upgrade will help improve the quality of care and expand services available to those who rely on state support.
