Kaanal Nasheed signs to DRP

Parliament Member for Nolhivaram constituency Mohamed Nasheed (Kaanal Nasheed) has signed for Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).

Kaanal Nasheed's signing took place in DRP's office tonight, in the presence of DRP leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.

Kaanal Nasheed said tonight that he has been having differences in opinion with his former party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for some time now and that he had put considerable effort to solve those differences. Kaanal Nasheed said that he has signed to DRP because his view and that party’s views align and that DRP is a party that has maintained its policies. He added that he believes that the party’s future is quite promising.

DRP leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali said tonight that Kaanal Nasheed has always maintained a close relationship with him in parliament, but said that Kaanal Nasheed had not discussed turn towards DRP before his signing.

Kaanal Nasheed competed for the position of Deputy Leader for MDP’s parliamentary group in its election held yesterday. The two Deputy Leader positions were won by former DRP member Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed and former Jumhoory party member Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir. Kaanal Nasheed received a total of 5 votes.
