Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to summon all the members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to attend the committee tomorrow.
The Committee decision was made during today’s meeting where the members decided to summon the whole commission to be present at the committee meeting at 2:30 pm tomorrow afternoon.
Members of the JSC are being summoned to face questions regarding the manner in which judges were appointed to the Hulhumale’ Court bench. The committee has previously summoned individual members from the commission regarding the issue.
They had previously refused to attend the committee when the commission was summoned as a whole on a previous occasion.
Afterwards, the committee had just summoned the commission members that were willing to submit to the committee summons.
Lower courts representative to the JSC judge Abdulla Did, Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid, and member appointed from the public Shuaib Abdulla had attended committee when summoned individually.
Commission members; representative from lawyer Ahmed Rasheed, Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor and High Court Judge Abdulla Hameed have also been summoned to individually attend the committee meeting tomorrow morning.
The members of Judicial Service Commission include; Supreme Court Judge Adam Mohamed, High Court Judge Abdulla Hameed, Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor, Speaker of the Parliament Abdualla Shahid, lower court Judge Abdulla Didi, MP to the JSC Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim, President’s member to the JSC Mohamed Saleem (Reynees Saleem), member to the JSC from the public Shuaib Abdul Rahmaan, lawyer to the JSC Ahmed Rasheed and President of the Civil Service Commission Mohamed Fahmy Hassan.
