Man fined MVR 100,000 for attempting to transport drugs to Kaadedhdhoo

A man who attempted to transport drugs to Kaadedhdhoo Airport has been fined a sum of MVR 100,000 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The sentence was passed upon Ahmed Nazim of Gaaf Dhaalu Madaveli Beach House.

The sentence passed down by the Criminal Court yesterday states that the Police, upon receiving information of Ahmed Nazim's attempt to transport drugs to Kaadedhdhoo Airport, the police had apprehended Nazim while he was at Ibrahim Nazim International Airport and that upon inspection, drugs were discovered upon his persons.

The Criminal Court sentence also states that Nazim had confessed that the police had discovered drugs hidden inside the clothes he had been wearing underneath.

The sentence also states that the test results on the substance confiscated from Nazim had tested positive for Dimorphine (Heroin).

The court has also conditioned Nazim to complete his fine payment within a period of one month.

“Under Article 103 (a) of the Drugs Act, it is declared that Ahmed Nazim has been found guilty of trafficking Dimorphine, and that under point (c) of the aforementioned Article, as the penalty for his crime, the court sentences Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli Beach House Ahmed Nazim to pay a fine of amount MVR 100,000, and that the total sum of the fine be paid before the end of a one month duration starting from today,” the Criminal Court sentence stated.
