Humaam charged with assaulting a policeman

State has raised charges against Hussain Humaam Ahmed H. Lobby with assaulting a policeman. Humaam was initially accused for the murder of parliament member Dr. Afrasheem Ali.

The charges raised by the State against Humaam states that around 6:45 pm on the 17th of August 2012 near Blue Bay restaurant located in Artificial Beach, Humaam had disobeyed the orders of a policeman who had tried to question him and perform a body check, after when Humaam had placed his hands on the policeman’s chest and pushed him.

Criminal Court Media Official Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that Humaam denied the charges that were raised against him today.

“Humaam denied the charges by the state, that he attacked a policeman who was performing police duties,” Manik said.

Humaam is being charged under the Police Act.

Article 75 of the Police Act states the penalty for being convicted of such a crime as a fine of an amount not exceeding MVR 12,000, or a jail sentence of not more than 6 months, or a fine not exceeding MVR 12,000 and a jail sentence of not more than 6 months.

State has also raised charges against Humaam for refusing to produce a urine sample.
