A Maldivian IT professional has been appointed as the lead venue technology manager for several major stadiums of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the stadium hosting the final match.

The role was awarded to Mohamed Shaheen, a Brooklyn‑based Maldivian IT expert with more than 25 years of experience in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology operations.

Shaheen, who has built a career in New York’s competitive tech sector, is the founder of Wit Solutions, a company specialising in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise networking, and IT operations. The World Cup project was awarded to his company.

Shaheen told Fiyes that when he first received the email from the World Cup organisers in January, he assumed it was spam.

“At first I thought it was a spam message,” he said.

When it was later confirmed to be genuine, Shaheen described it as the beginning of a project that brings international pride to his company and to the Maldives.

His responsibilities include technology design, system integration, operational‑readiness testing, and developing plans to overcome venue‑level challenges. He will also oversee technology planning and implementation across assigned stadiums.

Shaheen’s appointment is being celebrated as an example of the growing opportunities available to Maldivians in IT, engineering, cybersecurity, and digital‑infrastructure fields, both locally and on the global stage.
