An ozempic shot: MFDA has warned against unauthorized import of medicine, including weight loss medicine.
Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) on Wednesday published a list of medicines being imported and sold in the Maldives without the required registration or authorization, including medications used for weight loss.
The list includes 21 products, the majority of which are marketed as sexual enhancement medications. The authority specifically identified seven products associated with the treatment of sexual dysfunction:
In addition, the list includes two weight loss medications — Ozempic and Mounjaro — as well as six skin-whitening products. The authority further noted that commonly used pain-relief products, including Moov Spray and Moov Ointment, are also being imported and distributed by certain parties without valid authorization.

The MFDA warned that legal action would be taken against individuals or businesses involved in the importation and sale of unauthorized products marketed for weight loss, muscle building, skincare, or sexual enhancement purposes.
"The importation and sale of such unidentified medicinal products pose severe and unforeseen health risks to consumers," the MFDA stated, while urging the public to remain vigilant.
