Woman sentenced to 6 years for blackmail, production of porn

A woman from Male’ has been sentenced to six years in prison for production of pornographic content and blackmail.

The case against Maryam Riyasa, G. Southbreeze, K. Male’, dates back to 2022. She was pressed with two charges in the case; production of pornographic content and blackmail.

According to a statement released by the Criminal Court, Riyasa had pled guilty to both charges during trial.

The court found her guilty on both charges, and sentenced her to three years for each charge.

The Criminal Court had held a closed trial in the case, citing the need to maintain public morality. The details of the case are therefore unclear.

Riyasa also has a history of crimes involving fraud and deception, with the police making public announcement seeking her whereabouts on multiple occasions, including in 2023.
