The US State Department will issue a limited number of specially designed passports to mark the country’s 250th anniversary this year, which could feature an image of President Donald Trump.

“As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed US Passports to commemorate this historic occasion,” Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in an emailed statement to Anadolu, referring to July 4 Independence Day, the day in 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was signed.

“These passports will feature customised artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the US Passport the most secure document in the world,” he added.

The Bulwark website reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter, that the proposed redesign could involve a limited run of 25,000 passports featuring Trump’s portrait on the inside cover.

“America250” celebrations

According to the report, the design under consideration features Trump’s second inaugural portrait superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, along with his signature, with a more traditional patriotic image planned for the back cover.

A State Department official told Anadolu that there will be no additional fee for the commemorative passports.

The new passport designs, also obtained by Fox News, will feature Trump on the inside cover, alongside the Declaration of Independence text, the US flag, and his gold signature.

The passports, expected this summer, form part of the Trump administration’s “America250” celebrations, which also include a Grand Prix on the National Mall in August and a UFC event on the White House South Lawn in June.
