Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has called upon school students to become individuals who deeply respect and value their teachers.
He made appeal while speaking as the chief guest at a special assembly held on Sunday to mark the 99th anniversary of Majeedhiya School.
In his remarks, the Minister highlighted that a special educational program titled "Bingaa", which translates to Foundation, has been launched in schools with the aim of fostering mutual respect and instilling good character traits among students. The program is designed to cultivate compassion within students, focusing particularly on fostering respect for teachers, parents, and vulnerable members of society.
Advising the students, the Minister stated that if they truly value their education, the most important step is to respect and love the teachers who provide it. He further urged students to listen to their parents and to extend respect to everyone in the community, especially the underprivileged, those with special needs, and all fellow citizens.
"If you truly love education, the most important thing you must do is love your teachers. Listen to your mothers and fathers. Furthermore, I urge you to respect those in your community who are most deserving of love and respect—the vulnerable, the underprivileged, persons with special needs, and indeed, all people," the Minister said.
He added that a person’s true character is reflected through the compassion and respect they show towards others.
Minister Shafeeu emphasized that Majeedhiya School should serve as a role model for other schools in advancing the educational system and providing quality education for future generations. He noted that in addition to academic excellence in individual subjects, efforts must be made to develop various vocational skills in students. He mentioned that the current administration has prioritized this by opening a specialized school dedicated to skill development.
Speaking on the development of Majeedhiya School, the Minister announced that a new building consisting of 40 classrooms, including the Maldives' first smart classrooms, is scheduled to be constructed on the site of the former Dharumavantha School. Furthermore, it has been decided to transform the school's old hall into an educational museum.
During the ceremony, the Minister also officially launched Majeedhiya School's new website and YouTube channel. He noted that work is underway to complete and inaugurate a special monument symbolizing Majeedhiya’s centenary by the time the school celebrates its 100th anniversary next year.
