Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) says it has not held any discussions with the government to increase fees for boats using the North Harbor area, Male’ city.
In a press release issued Sunday, MPL said recent claims about a fee hike were baseless and untrue. The company clarified that no changes have been made to the charges for vessels operating in the North Harbor.
MPL said the North Harbor service has been expanded as part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project, with water and electricity now available for vehicles using Zone A. The layout of the area was also changed on Saturday to reduce waiting times for cargo vessels.
The company confirmed that no fees will be charged for boats using Zones D, E and F of the harbor.

The only change made after the outer road development, MPL said, was that the area would no longer be used by vehicles not registered with the relevant authorities.
MPL said the North Harbor is a vital service for many citizens and expressed concern over the spread of false information that could cause public unrest. The company urged the public not to share unverified claims about its services.
