Additional barge utilised in clearing garbage area

An additional barge has been assigned to transport garbage to Thilafushi, in the efforts by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in collaboration with Male’ City Council and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) to clear up the garbage area in Male’.

MNDF said that the additional barge is being utilised since last night and that it belongs to Villa Shipping.

MNDF said that the efforts to clear the area by transporting the garbage to the barge on lorries, will continue without any pause.

MNDF Spokesperson Colonel Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef said that MNDF’s role is to manage and monitor the operation undertaken in collaboration with Male’ City Council and MTCC.

This operation was started after some students of Imaaduddin School, located near the vicinity of the garbage dumping area, suffered health problems due to the smoke and fumes originating from the dump.
