The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced changes to the land use plan for the reclaimed Giraavaru lagoon, with a new lottery scheduled to reassign plots to previous recipients.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, the ministry said the land use plan has been amended and a new layout prepared. As a result, recipients of plots under the previous government’s Binnveriyaa scheme may receive new lot numbers.

The draw will take place at the Maafannu Youth Center from 0930 hrs on Saturday. It will be conducted in the presence of ministry staff and attendees, and broadcast live via state media.

During the draw, plot details will be made available on the ministry’s Hiyaavehi portal, and beneficiaries will be notified via message. The signing of land transfer agreements and registry updates will follow at a later date.

According to the ministry, the new allocation includes:

  • 2,605 plots of 1,250 sq ft

  • 1,213 plots of 1,650 sq ft

  • 253 plots of 2,050 sq ft

  • 1 plot of 2,450 sq ft

Under the original Binnveriyaa scheme, 2,000 plots were allocated from Giraavaru lagoon. The remaining land was later designated for Gulhifalhu, with applications opening on April 7, 2024. A total of 2,210 people applied for land transfer to Gulhifalhu, and a lottery was held in June to determine recipients.
