Ilyas decides not to compete in PPM primary

Ilyas Ibrahim has decided not to compete in the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) presidential primary scheduled for 30th of next month.

A short statement signed by Ilyas was released today stating that "after reflecting from numerous angles, the right thing to do" is not to compete in the PPM primary.

Ilyas has confirmed his decision to Sun, but said that he does not want to state details.

Deadline for candidates to submit applications to compete in the PPM primary ends at 15:30 today.

Two people have submitted their names to compete for the primary so far. They are; PPM Parliamentary Group Leader Abdulla Yameen and the party’s former Interim Deputy Leader Umar Naseer.
