Person arrested accused of attacking journalist

A person has been arrested in suspicion of attacking Raajje TV journalist Ibrahim Waheed (Aswad).

Waheed was travelling on a motor cycle when he was attacked near artificial beach a on Friday. He sustained severe injuries from the attack, and is currently being treated in a hospital in Sri Lanka.

The arrest of a person was confirmed by a tweet made by the Commissioner of Police today. Details however, have not yet been revealed.

Ibrahim Waheed was attacked in the head with iron rod while travelling on a motorcycle in Boduthakurufaanu Magu near Artificial Beach on Friday night. He was accompanied by Raajje TV Deputy CEO Abdulla Yameen.

Waheed sustained severe injuries, causing his scull to fracture and cause hemorrhaging in the brain. Raajje TV Chairman Akram Kamaaluddheen, who is currently in Sri Lanka, citing Waheed\'s doctors told Raajje TV that bleeding in Waheed’s brain has now stopped, but said that operations on his ear and face can only be performed after a period of one week.

Two journalists from TVM were attacked on the same night, before the attack in Waheed took place.

Media organization in the country have condemned the attacks and staged protests, calling on the authorities to properly and promptly investigate the incidents.
