President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday expressed deep satisfaction in connecting with the public and addressing their needs during his ongoing tour of the atolls.

Speaking in Maabaidhoo, Laamu atoll, the President said his visits were aimed at facilitating the priorities of island communities. “I have come to the people to do what they want. To listen closely to what the people want. To give the people the opportunity to say what they want,” he said.

“It gives me great satisfaction to come to the people, listen to their needs, and help achieve the goals they seek. That is my responsibility,” he added.

During his meeting with the Maabaidhoo Island Council, Women’s Development Committee, and local institutional heads, several key development needs were raised. These included shore protection, electricity for newly inhabited areas, and upgrading the Health Centre to a 24-hour facility. The council also highlighted urgent space constraints at the school, requesting two additional classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, and a science lab.

President Muizzu assured that these concerns would be addressed and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made to Maabaidhoo.

The President is currently visiting islands across Laamu Atoll, holding consultation meetings with all island councils as part of his broader initiative to engage directly with communities nationwide.
