Applications have open for graduates of O-levels or an equivalent program to apply for the United World Colleges (UWC) Maldives scholarship program to pursue their higher secondary education overseas.

According to a statement released by UWC Maldives on Sunday, the program is an annual scholarship program for students aged 15-17 who have graduated from or are about to graduate from Grade 10.

Students selected for the program will receive financial aid to purse their higher secondary education at UWC - an international network of 18 reputable schools and educational programs.

They will complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program – a two-year course that is equivalent to A-levels and is endorsed by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) and recognized by universities worldwide for entry.

Applications close on December 15.

Suha Ahmed, the selections coordinator at UWC Maldives, describes the scholarship program as a golden opportunity for Maldivian students.

“This is something that will change their life. Because getting educated at UWC schools will open the door to pursue studies in any field of choice from the best universities worldwide,” she said.

Over 65 Maldivian students have pursued their higher secondary education under the UWC scholarship program since 2001, many of whom went on to get scholarships to pursue their higher studies in some of the best universities worldwide.

There are currently five Maldivian students studying under the scholarship program in universities in Germany, Canada, India, Hong Kong and South Africa.

Application forms and additional details regarding the program are available on the UWC website.
