Police has commenced a security assessment of media centres and persons of the media in order to determine a manner to provide them security.
Police revealed that the assessment will be made jointly with the Police Public Affairs Unit and the Police Intelligence and Covert Policing, and that it will assess the threat level to media centres and persons of the media, as well as gather information regarding the preventative measures that can be taken to avoid an attack on those working in media.
Police visited and gathered information from some media centres today. They took note of the security measures that exist in such centres, and are currently evaluating the improvement that can be made in to the centres terms of security.
Police will compile a report on their findings on the assessment.
Different media establishment, TV and radio stations have suffered damages during protests and in times of disorder in Male’. Raajje TV Deputy CEO Ibrahim Waheed (Aswaad) was attacked on the street recently, and is still being treated in a Hospital in Sri Lanka.
