First plane lands in Kudahuvadhoo airport - A dream come true for the people

National Airline, Maldivian, has landed a test flight at Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo airport and decided to start scheduled flights to the island.

Kudahuvadhoo airport in no.12 in the chain of airports in the Maldives. On the test flight to the new airport this morning, the first to disembark from the plane was the Tourism Minister, Moosa Zameer. Accompanying the minister was the Parliament Majority Leader, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik and the MP for Kudahuvadhoo constituency, Ahmed Amir.

A large number of Kudahuvadhoo residents gathered at the airport to welcome the guests on the test flight this morning.

Talking to Sun Media, the Head of Administration at Island Aviation, Ali Nashaath Hameed said that the company is now preparing to begin scheduled flights to the airport within a week or so.

“First we’re starting with four flights a day, (based on the) demand to the flight (we will) decrease or increase the number (of flights).” Nashaath said.

Kudahuvadhoo airport has a 1.8 km runway capable of landing jets.

A total of 62.81 hectare of land was reclaimed to build the airport. Being developled with the capacity to park 42 planes at a time, Kudahuvadhoo airport will become the largest domestic airport in the country.
