Seaplane rolls in landing attempt

A seaplane of Trans Maldivian Airways attempting to land at Velana International Airport has rolled to the side landing in the sea.

Photos of the incident on social media shows the plane on the side and it’s nose below the surface of the water.

The Spokesperson of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Hassan Areef told Sun Media that a plane arriving at Velana International Airport from Conrad Rangili Resort fell to Hulhulé lagoon. The nine passengers and three crew members on board escaped unharm.

Spokesperson of MNDF, Captain Ibrahim Azim verified the incident to Sun Media and said that the boat was rescued and turned upright around 9:18 a.m. this morning.

There has been no word from Trans Maldivian Airways regarding the incident at Velana International Airport.
