Ferry speedboat with 28 onboard wrecks on reef

A ferry speedboat with 28 people onboard travelling from A. A. Atoll to Male’ City has wrecked on a reef.

Information officer for Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Ibrahim Azim said the ferry wrecked on a reef near Bathala Island Resort in A. A. Atoll.

It’s not yet clear whether anyone was injured in the accident.

Azim reported that there were 28 people onboard the ferry when the accident took place; including six women – one of them pregnant, and a child.

Azim said MNDF was working on transporting all of them to Male’ City. He said they were expected to reach the city in the afternoon.
