Umar to meet Jameel in London to discuss Presidential Election

Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has decided to meet with the former Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed in London, UK, where he is in exile, to discuss the upcoming Presidential Election.

Umar Naseer is a member of the Council in the Mauoom faction of PPM. He has also declared his intention to run in the Presidential Election 2018.

A message posted on the Facebook page of the former Home Minister said that he would be arriving in London next week to discuss the upcoming Presidential Election. No further details on the visit was given in the message.

After resigning from the government, Umar announced his candidacy for President in July 2016. And he has officially notified the President of PPM his intention to run for the PPM ticket.

When the former Vice President, Dr. Jameel was impeached, he has moved to UK and he is now the leader of the Maldives United Opposition (MUO), a unified opposition coalition.

As Umar Naseer visits London, the former President Mohamed Nasheed, a senior member of MUO is currently in Sri Lanka. Umar has previously said that even if he has resigned, he would not go to the “lap” of President Nasheed.
