2nd Maldives-Thailand Joint Trade Committee meeting begins

The second meeting of Maldives-Thailand Joint Committee – set up in 2013 – began in Maldives this Wednesday.

The meeting is being held at Hotel Jen.

The first session of the meeting, held this Wednesday morning, consisted of discussions between senior officials of both countries.

Ministerial discussions are scheduled for Thursday, October 13.

Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Apiradi Tantraporn arrived in Maldives this Wednesday for the meeting.

Director of Ministry of Economic Development, Ahmed Ifthihaar said that officials would discuss increasing trade and investments between the two countries during the discussions.

“The highest priority will be to increase trade and investment,” said Ifthihaar.

The first Maldives-Thailand Joint Trade Committee was held in Thailand, back in 2013.

Maldivian President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom made an official visit to Thailand earlier this year, during which he met with Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, and discussed strengthening ties between the two countries.
