MET Office warns against flooding due to storm surges

The Maldives Meteorological Service has warned against flooding due to storm surges in several islands as a result of the bad weather presently being experienced in the Maldives.

A weather forecaster at the MET Office said that heavy rain with strong winds and thunder can be expected in the atolls, and flooding due to storm surges can also be expected during high tides.

“Flooding has not yet been reported from any region, but it can be expected in this bad weather,” he said.

He said that the weather is expected to be worst in central and northern atolls, but heavy rain, thunder and rough seas can be expected in all regions.
