A new Dash 8 aircraft acquired by national airline Maldivian has arrived in the Maldives.

The aircraft, carrying two Maldivian pilots and one engineer, landed at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) at 3:08 p.m. and was welcomed by senior officials of the State aviation company, Island Aviation.

Managing Director of Island Aviation Abdul Harish said that the arrival of the new aircraft will see improvements in domestic flight schedules, and help prevent delays.

“This will increase the opportunities for air travel for Maldivians, and also benefit the tourist market,” said Harish.

In response to a question by Sun Online, Harish said that efforts are also underway to acquire two additional seaplanes and one jet aircraft.

With the arrival of the 50-seat aircraft, Maldivian now has eight Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft in its fleet. The remaining seven consist of two 37-seat aircraft and five 50-seat aircraft. In addition, Maldivian also has one Airbus A320 and two seaplanes.
