Maldives Media Council (MMC) on Sunday has decided to review a case of alleged harassment of a journalist from ‘Vaguthu’ media outlet by a member of the Council.

In a statement released earlier today, Vaguthu said that they strongly condemn the harassment of a female staff of the media outlet, by an MMC member, with continuous text messages, inquiring personal information.

The statement detailed that the harassment by the MMC member began after a recent trip to India, organized by the Council.

Vaguthu called on the resignation of the MMC member. If the member refuses to resign, Vaguthu has urged MMC to remove the member from the post.

They also noted that a case has been filed with the police regarding the harassment.

MMC’s President Mohamed Shafaau confirmed to Sun that a complaint has been lodged regarding another council member.

“We are working on convening a meeting amongst council members tomorrow at 2:15pm in the afternoon,” he added.

When Sun questioned the MMC member Vaguthu has made the allegations against, the member refuted the allegations – further stating that discussions with relevant parties were underway regarding the matter.

“As I believe, no such thing has been said. As how I mean it,” the member had said.
