Lawyer Hussain Shameem, representing the Vice President Ahmed Adheeb who is currently detained in the investigation of the explosion on board the Presidential Launch, has been suspended from all the courts in the Maldives by the Supreme Court.

Department of Judiciary Administration (JDA) issued a press release tonight saying that lawyer Hussain Shameem has been temporarily suspended from all the courts in the country.

Lawyer Shameem has been suspended until a decision can be made in the investigation of him by the Supreme Court in violation of Article 3.2- A,C,D,E and J of the Supreme Court’s circular on the Law of Attorneys in the Courts of Maldives.

Regarding his suspension, Shameem said that he is currently in Sri Lanka on business and the Supreme Court has not notified him of his suspension.

He said that he has not committed any crime and that he is not someone who would flee. Shameem said that he would return to Malé and be present at the Supreme Court whenever they want and is ready to answer any of their questions.
