Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the State of Emergency was not declared today to stop the MDP protest rally on Friday.
Talking of TVM today after the State of Emergency was declared, the Home Minister said that the right to protest was seized because an explosion may occur inside a rally injuring a lot of people.
“The State of Emergency was declared by no means to stop the MDP protest. MDP has held a lot of protests. We were watching them. It is by no means to stop the protest. But because a lot of people gather at the protest, during the protest, someone might attack inside the protest or if an explosion is caused inside the protest, a large number of people would be in suffering and losing their lives is possible. So stopping that is also one of our important needs.” Umar said.
The Home Minister said that if an explosion occurs in a big protest while we allow it, which is something we all would mourn.
“…that is why, to not allow something like that, we have seized the right to public public essembly.” The Home Minister said.
