Investment in mobile phone trade prohibited for foreigners

Ministry of Economic Development has announced that investment in mobile phone and mobile phone accessory businesses is prohibited for foreigners in the Maldives.

Foreign businesses have been asked to end operations in these areas within three months.

The Business Registration Act gives Economic Development Ministry the authority to prohibit investment in certain areas by certain groups.

In a similar move earlier, it prohibited foreign photographers from operating in Maldives.
