Maldives Police Service has ordered that the national flag hoisted at the office of former President and President of the PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

There are two flags at the office of the PPM President at Henveiru Themaa. They are the PPM flag and the national flag of the Maldives.

Police gave the order to bring down the flag last night.

Secretary General of the Maumoon Faction of PPM, Abdul Aleem told Sun Media that when the Police asked to bring down the national flag at the PPM President’s Office, they have been asked to come back at the official hours.

The order to bring down the flag was given regarding the new regulation on the use of national flag published in the state gazette on Wednesday. Maumoon Faction said that they cannot keep the national flag hoisted under the new regulation according to the Police.

According to the new regulation set by the Home Ministry, the national flag can only be hoisted at state institutes, government offices, government companies and the political party offices registered at the Elections Commission.

The PPM Office registered on the website of the Elections Commission is at Henveiru Hurafa.

A special permit from the Home Ministry is required to hoist the national flag at any other place aside from those that are mention in the new regulation.
